WMS Shop-Floor Warehouse · Work-Order Picking & Returns

Three-tier management of shop-floor warehouse / line-side warehouse / workstation bins. Work orders pull materials by picking list, materials are kitted by delivery task, and stock is deducted by operation consumption, with FEFO / FIFO enforced automatically — eliminating book-physical discrepancies at the source.

Capabilities

Core Capabilities of the Shop-Floor Warehouse

A complete chain from picking to delivery to workstation consumption

📝 Work-Order Picking List

Work orders auto-compute the required-material list from the BOM; once PMC reviews it, it's dispatched to the shop-floor warehouse — no manual form-filling.

🚚 Delivery Tasks

Large items by AGV, small items by trolley; delivery staff claim on a PDA, scan to dispatch, and scan to deliver.

🔁 Returns / Replenishment

Surplus returns to the shop-floor warehouse and shortages trigger temporary replenishment, with return/replenish workflows approved and traced for clear books.

📅 FEFO / FIFO

Automatically suggest picking order by "first-in-first-out / first-expiry-first-out" to avoid stock expiry.

📍 Location Management

Four-level location codes — aisle / rack / location / cell — locate by scan, finding goods in zero time.

🔀 Operation-Consumption Deduction

Materials are back-deducted by operation BOM during reporting, avoiding the false book-kitting of "picking more, deducting less."

A Three-Tier Architecture: Shop-Floor Warehouse / Line-Side Warehouse / Workstation Bin

Don't let "picking too much or too little" become the norm for shop-floor squabbles. The shop-floor warehouse is far from the workstation but holds bulk, the line-side warehouse is close but small, and the workstation bin is right at the worker's hand. Tiered three-warehouse management + kanban pull + JIT delivery makes material management flow as smoothly as the bloodstream.

  • Shop-floor warehouse: set up per workshop, receiving material issued from the central warehouse
  • Line-side warehouse: adjacent to the line, replenished by Kanban pull
  • Workstation bin: the shift's required materials per operation, taken at hand by workers
  • SuperMarket area: common materials placed in fixed locations

FEFO rule · nearest-expiry issued first

FEFO / FIFO: Compliance Without Pitfalls for Food / Medical / Chemical

Materials in food / medical / chemical industries have shelf lives and must follow FEFO (first-expiry-first-out); auto parts / electronics require FIFO (first-in-first-out) for consistency. The system selects the rule automatically by material attribute, with the picking PDA guiding to the correct batch.

  • FEFO priority: batches with the nearest expiry are issued first
  • FIFO priority: batches received first are issued first
  • Expiry alerts: tiered warnings 7 / 30 days before expiry
  • Picking guidance: after a PDA scan, the system points directly to the batch to pick

Operation-Consumption Deduction: Book Kitting ≠ Actual Kitting

Traditionally, materials are picked all at once at work-order start and deducted all at once at close. But deductions may be missed in between (scrap / substitution / shortcutting), so book kitting isn't actual kitting. SBK MES back-deducts by operation BOM during reporting, deducting stock automatically with each operation's consumption.

  • The operation-level BOM defines this operation's material consumption
  • Reporting deducts stock, keeping books and physical in sync
  • Automatic alert when the scrap rate exceeds baseline
  • Substitute-material consumption traced to the specific batch
Use Cases

Shop-Floor Warehouse in Practice Across Production Modes

Auto Parts JIT Kanban Pull

With an OEM 2-hour delivery window, the line-side warehouse pulls by Kanban, moving materials from warehouse to workstation within 10 minutes.

SMT Feeder SET-ization

Feeders are pre-SET before changeover and delivered as a complete set by AGV to the SMT line-side, halving changeover time.

Food FEFO Near-Expiry Alerts

Materials are picked by shelf life with FEFO, with automatic alerts 7 days before expiry and a monthly near-expiry list to spur consumption.

Electronics Small-Batch, Multi-Model

200+ materials per work order, with PDA scanning guiding picking — new workers up to speed in 1 day.
